    Dear Euclid Families:

It is with great pride and sincere enjoyment that I serve as the Principal of Euclid School.  Here at Euclid, we believe in developing readers, writers, and analytical thinkers so that our students are prepared for whatever may lie ahead.  It is a moment of excitement as I watch our new Kindergarten students enter our doors for the first time, and sadness as we clap out the 5th Graders on their last day of school.  Those precious years in between go by fast and our Faculty ensures that each and every day our students are challenged and supported.  All of our curricula are aligned to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards.  We utilize Columbia University's, Readers and Writers Workshop to ensure we are exposing our students to a balanced literacy program.  We follow the instructional practices of the Go Math series, and in addition, our Science and Social Studies Program is a web-based program called TCI.  Our students also receive instruction in Art, Media, Music, Physical Education, and World Language.  We do all of this in a safe environment as school security is our number one priority.

As far as whom I am, after graduating from Rowan University I was fortunate to be hired as a 5th Grade Teacher at Euclid School in 1999.  A couple of years later the tragic events of September 11, 2001, compelled me to reenlist into The United States Marine Corps Reserve.  I was activated, mobilized and deployed in 2003 in Support of Iraqi Freedom / Enduring Freedom.  Upon my deactivation from active service in 2005, I returned to Hasbrouck Heights to work in the Middle School and High School as a Mathematics Teacher.  I was named the Middle School Teacher of the Year in 2008.  I continued my education at Jersey City University, where I earned my Masters in Educational Leadership.  Then again in 2011, I was activated, mobilized, and deployed with The United States Marine Corps in Support of The Black Sea Rotational Force.  After deactivation from the Marine Corps as a Staff Non-Commissioned Officer, I once again returned to Hasbrouck Heights as a 3rd Grade Teacher at Euclid School.  I was promoted to Principal of Euclid School on July 1, 2012.

I reside in Hasbrouck Heights with my wife Jeanine and our two children Daniel and Christopher.  I am an active member of our community as a Past President of the Lions Club, Quartermaster of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 4591, Trustee on the Library Board and serve on the Mayors Committee to Recognize Military Service.

Please don't hesitate to make me, or the Euclid School Faculty or Staff, aware of any questions or concerns that you may have.  It is our belief that we educate the whole child, therefore family, community, and school work together for the benefit of our students.

    Respectfully,

    Michael A. Sickels
